Emergency Evacuation Plans

Depending on the severity of the emergency, one of the two following plans would be taken:

Plan One

We would take the children to a safe corner of the parking lot. The teachers would carry this out as practiced in monthly fire drills. The emergency card would be taken as well as the attendance book and the first-aid kit. We would wait to re-enter the building until the safety of the building was confirmed by the fire and police department.

Plan Two

We would walk the children to the Body Basics Fitness Center located at 5569 47 Street. This is where the children will be supervised until the time parents would be able to pick up their children. Emergency cards, first-aid kit and the attendance book would be taken. We would leave the school as practiced during fire drills. A teacher would take attendance upon arrival at the location.

Fire Drill will take place each month in the class. The first such drill, the children are notified that a bell will be rung by the teacher. At this time they are to line up at the front entrance. One teacher will be responsible for gathering the emergency cards, first-aid kit and attendance book which will be kept by the main door. The other teacher will check the bathrooms to make sure all the children have evacuated and join the children at the end of the line. The children will be led to the parking lot where attendance will be taken. We will return to the main building and immediately following the fire drill, we will gather to discuss why we practice fire drills and play a tape of what a real fire bell sounds like. We will also read an age appropriate book that helps to explain fire safety practices. Parents will be notified so that they can discuss safety procedure at home and at school. Following fire drills will be unannounced so the children become accustomed to leaving the building quickly. We also practice leaving from other exits incase of the main entrance being blocked due to a real fire. Parent volunteers in the classroom during a drill or a fire evacuation are expected to help the children exit the building in a calm manner. The teacher will be responsible for all forms, first-aid kit, etc., that are required by licensing.

In case of a real evacuation as outlined in plan two. Parents know that the children will be taken to the Body Basics Fitness Center. The teaching staff will stay with the children until parents arrive.
